Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC)

In this California, citizens must possess a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) prior to purchasing or acquiring a handgun or long gun. Unless exempt, individuals must also perform a safe handling demonstration prior to taking delivery of a gun from a licensed dealer. You must have a valid FSC before a firearm can be DROS'ed (background check / registered). The FSC is good for 5 years.

An FSC can be obtained the same day you DROS your gun or at any time prior to the submission of the background check.

You can complete the written test and safe handling demonstration here at Red Rifle or another participating FFL. The cost is $25.00. If you fail you must wait 24 hours before being allowed to retake the test. The $25.00 fee includes two attempts at the test. Safety and compliance are huge here at Red Rifle. At no additional charge Red Rifle will, for those less experienced individuals give a brief safety and takedown lesson on the firearm they've chosen.

Study materials and more information regarding the Firearm Safety Certificate program can be found here on the CA. DOJ website.
